Also most common failures with the cut 50 : mosfets , power switch (I had that problem) , loose wires in the connectors and bad solder joints on the boards

What a dope. First time through the 3/8" you went too fast; second time you did not have an adequate ground; third time you got lucky.

Clamping that 3/8 piece down would help with the ground, also slow down a little and it will cut fine.
